Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Marking Automation on BIW Line
Vehicle Identification Number Marking is a critical task. Although not a very complex process, it is very important in view of future maintenance of the vehicle as well as statutory or regulatory aspects. The numbers marked must comply with stringent guidelines with respect to size, depth of mark, number of characters and their shapes.

Solution and Benefits
To handle all three variant of the doors a specialised vacuum based gripper was used . Heavy duty vacuum cups were used with air pressure 6 bar.
Since all 4 doors were to installed by same manipulator it had to cover large area, Manipulator was mounted on Rail system with X-Y movement.
As lifting and mounting angles were different, Gripper was mounted on pivot joint which would give tilt, rotation and front back angular movement to the door.
