The implementation of a rail-mounted air balancer paired with a vacuum gripper has revolutionized the handling process of car hoods, ensuring efficiency and precision. Challenges
- Quick gripping of car hood weighing 20 Kg and ensure it does not fall off
- Changing the orientation of hood from vertical to horizontal for mounting on car body
- Ensure any accidental damage to the hood due to gripper contact
Solution and Benefits
- Fine Handling developed a specialised vacuum gripper which would grip component on its surface. Gripper was also provided with a clamping indicator to indicate the Hood is clamped properly and safe to move.
- Specialized orientation change mechanism with auto actuation was developed for easy tilting and precise alignment.
- Gripper had two pneumatically operated JAWs to hold the hood. To avoid any direct contact with the hood, these jaws were provided with PU pads.
