The implementation of a rail-mounted air balancer paired with a vacuum gripper has revolutionized the handling process of car hoods, ensuring efficiency and precision. By utilizing a rail-mounted system, the air balancer can seamlessly traverse the assembly line, covering a wide area with ease. Challenges
- Quick gripping of car hood weighing 20 Kg and ensure it does not fall off
- Changing the orientation of hood from vertical to horizontal for mounting on car body
- Ensure any accidental damage to the hood due to gripper contact
Solution and Benefits
Fine Handling developed a specialised vacuum gripper which would grip component on its surface. Gripper was also provided with a clamping indicator to indicate the Hood is clamped properly and safe to move.
Specialized orientation change mechanism with auto actuation was developed for easy tilting and precise alignment.
Gripper had two pneumatically operated JAWs to hold the hood. To avoid any direct contact with the hood, these jaws were provided with PU pads.
