Wind Hub Bolt Torquing

Wind Hub Torquing Made Faster

Torquing nuts for installing slew bearings with wind turbine hubs is a complex and time-consuming operation. The task involves multiple nuts, high torque accuracy and difficult working positions. Manual torquing can increase cycle time, safety risks and chances of missed or incorrect torque. Fine Handling provides an automated robotic arm solution for safer, faster and more accurate wind hub bolt torquing.

Fine’s system helps complete repetitive torquing operations with better consistency, reduced operator dependency and improved process control.

Automated Torquing for Wind Turbine Hubs

  • Robotic arm for wind hub bolt torquing
  • Automated torquing of multiple nuts
  • Torque data tracking for each nut
  • Automatic error detection and correction
  • Reduced manual effort at height
  • Safer operation around heavy equipment
  • Repeatable torque cycle execution
  • Reduced operator dependency
  • Improved cycle time and productivity
  • Suitable for slew bearing and wind hub assembly

Wind hub bolt torquing needs precision and repeatability. In manual operations, operators have to work around large components and torque a high number of nuts. This can lead to fatigue, missed nuts, loose fixing or inconsistent torque.

Fine Handling’s robotic arm solution automates the torquing cycle after initiation. It tracks torque data for each nut, checks the applied torque and retorques where required. This helps ensure that every nut receives the right torque.

The solution also improves safety. Operators do not need to manually handle heavy torque tools for long cycles or work continuously in difficult positions around the hub.

As per the case study, Fine’s solution helped reduce the torquing cycle for all 3 faces of the wind hub from 12 hours to 4 hours, while reducing manpower from 2–3 operators to 1 operator.

Fine’s wind hub torquing system helps wind equipment manufacturers improve productivity, reduce manual errors, ensure torque consistency and make large-scale wind turbine assembly safer and more efficient.
