Mother–Daughter Carts
Tight Space, High Volume & Damage-Sensitive Loading
In high-mix plants, the real problem is not moving material but moving it too often, with too many stops, too much coupling/uncoupling, and too much forklift dependence. Plant Heads and Production Managers typically want predictable milk runs, faster line-side replenishment, and reduced congestion on aisles. Mother–daughter cart systems are built to support this lean “milk run” approach and reduce reliance on lift trucks for frequent smaller moves.
Mother–Daughter Cart Systems for Lean Intralogistics
A mother–daughter system uses a mother frame that carries one or more removable daughter carts. The mother cart travels as part of a tugger/AGV route, and daughter carts can be quickly dropped at workstations for line-side supply, then picked up again on the return route. This improves route efficiency, reduces repeated handling, and supports quick changeover of line-side inventory.
